I also used the song "Oh Holy Night" on my answering machine as background music. It is my God given right afterall to express my opinion and I do not have to eliminate the use of God or religion for fear of offending someone. If they are offended, perhaps they should seek the help of the ACLU or talk to some of the idiots from Planet Hollyweird.

Gender takes center stage in Democratic primaries

I am very upset at the media for blocking out any information on Alan Keyes. If ANYONE represents the Republican platform, conservatism, and values, it's ALAN. That's probably why he's never mentioned…the media represents Democrats, for the most part, and they don't want anyone to know about a highly-principled man who could lead our country back to being what it should be and not toward more and more socialism. But then I've been upset with the media for years, so it's nothing new. ALAN KEYES for PRESIDENT!

Debate takes on contentious air for U.S. Democrats

If anyone bothers to learn about the rise and fall of the political honeymoon of the just retired ex-President of South Korea, you will be astounded. President Roh was elected in 2002 by astonishing landslide. A relative new comer and novice administrator, Roh was supported mainly by enthusiastic young voters who were dying for "change" of all the old systems and old politics. Roh promised hope for change. They young supporters used all kinds of digital methods to urge each other to vote and spreading the message to all others to go out to vote. He won. The "conservatives" were shocked. He employed lots of so nicknamed "boy scouts" for his inner circle, all wide-eyed idealists who vowed to turn Korea upside down, inside out by trying to make changes. The result was miserable. Roh was even abandoned by his own ruling party which itself split into two different parties.

Why we need the wealthy to go shopping

Sales dropped 10 percent in October and November from the year-ago period, according to president Jeff Landis. He noted that 20 percent of his clients, who include commodity traders and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, delayed buying suits for fall.

"I consider them a leading economic indicator," said Landis. He's taken more aggressive measures like increasing calls to clients to get them in the store, but hasn't laid off anyone.

"I'm not at the point of panic," he said.

Overall, the super wealthy -- consumers with a net worth of more than $10 million -- are still splurging on $1 million boats, $10 million diamond jewelry and other luxuries, according to Milton Pedraza, chief executive of the Luxury Institute, a research institute based in New York.

ATHLETICS: Former Olympic ace inspires students

FORMER Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Olympic athlete Tony Jarrett spent an afternoon in an Enfield classroom last week to pass on tips to sports students.

Jarrett, who competed in the 110m hurdles at the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000, Atlanta 1996, Barcelona 1992 and Seoul 1988, was born in Enfield.

And the former sprint ace, who won medals at the World, European and Commonwealth Games, returned to his home town to give a talk to sports students at Enfield College.

The 39-year-old would probably have enjoyed even more success in his career had it not been for GB teammate Colin Jackson, with his only individual gold medal coming at the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Jarrett, who is now an athletics coach, shared his experiences as a professional athlete with the students at the Hertford Road college, as well as running an exclusive practical coaching session.

2 editors' online journal gives new life to literature

The Wiegers hire is the equivalent of the Giants signing Barry Zito.

The publication also includes original nonfiction, classic reprints, place-oriented tales called Readers Narratives and a First and Second Looks section of excerpted novels, stories and nonfiction.

A symbiotic life

Like many couples who have been married for 20 years, Edgarian and Jenks finish each other's sentences and even sometimes speak in unison. But their work relationship is even more symbiotic. Not only do they edit the magazine together, they tend to edit manuscripts in tandem, formulating what Jenks calls the "ideal version of the work."

Having two editors is most writers' version of hell, but those who work with Jenks and Edgarian seem to be grateful for the critical double-blast.

Toll road rejected

A man in an orange shirt frowned in disgust as he walked passed Malecha, a surfer who recently moved to the county from Oahu, Hawaii.About 30 feet away, toll-road opponent Chris Pearson of San Diego and project supporter Robert Ruiz of Riverside, a construction union representative, were debating the merits of the $875 million project."If you don't address the congestion on the (Interstate) 5 freeway now, we'll pay the price 20 years from now," Ruiz told Pearson. Ruiz said the traffic congestion only will get much worse and, with it, the environment, as more car-belched emissions foul the air and aggravate global warming. But Pearson maintained that congestion is going to get worse in any case."I'd rather have people fighting traffic than ruin the beach," he said.Referring to Trestles Beach, which is just west of where the proposed toll road would tie into I-5, Pearson said: "This is one of the best breaks in all of California."Ruiz said there were economic reasons for supporting the project, as well.
