| AC on cold morning leads to Estates grow-house bust
N.E. Earlier this month a deputy on patrol noticed that an air conditioning unit was in use at the house on a cold morning. As the deputy approached the residence, he could smell the odor of growing marijuana. The house appeared to be vacant at the time. Around 10 a.m. Thursday, a blue Nissan Pathfinder driven by Puentes left the house, traveling 51 mph on Eighth Avenue Northeast, where the posted speed is 35 mph. Deputies pulled over the Pathfinder and while speaking to Puentes could smell a strong odor of marijuana on his clothing. Deputies asked Puentes if he lived at 1781 8th Ave. N.E. and Puentes said that he used to live there. Deputies asked Puentes if they could follow him back to the house, and he agreed. A search of the house turned up an active marijuana growing operation.

Is Bush Stopped in His Tracks on Iran?
Bush and Cheney do not need a rational excuse for invading another country. Why are we in Iraq? Again, why are we in Iraq? More pertinent is: Will Halliburton and other private contractors make big money by invading Iran. Will invading Iran give the oil companies more control over Iranian oil or shipping routes? It's that simple. Blood for oil and money. Congress cannot stop Bush. No more than Hitler could have been stopped. The neo-cons and Israel (with its own little concentration camp of 1.4 million) are out of control. Ironic isn't it? .
Oil prices shoot above 90 dollars
The commodities market will continue to look for signs of health in the US economy from equities and that will affect prices," said Tony Nunan from Mitsubishi Corp. Despite recent gains, oil prices are still well off their early January historic highs of 100.09 dollars for New York's light sweet crude and 98.50 dollars for Brent. "Oil will get support from stocks if they stay strong but may also get some support from China's GDP," said Phil Flynn at Alaron Trading. China's economy grew 11.4 percent in 2007, reaching the highest level in 13 years and marking the fifth straight year of double-digit growth, the Chinese government said on Thursday. China is meanwhile consuming vast amounts of oil to help power its economy. But Nunan said the real focus remained on the United States economy.
Britney's Over, Here Comes Alicia vs. Celine
In a word, they despise her. Jackson is so isolated, they claim, that he has no idea the amount of enmity she's caused. Michael Jackson's fans, like those of Madonna, Mariah Carey and other pop stars, are his bread and butter. Fans clubs, which sound like something out of the 1940s, are often what keep careers going long after mass popularity has subsided. For Jackson, his loyal, zealous fans have always been a source of comfort. Perhaps he's wondering now why he's so cut off from them. One fan from Denmark wrote an e-mail, since purged from a Jackson Web site, describing Bain's reaction to fan interaction. The fan claimed that Bain responded to news of a big gift being sent to Jackson this way: "Michael is not interested in receiving any fan mail or fan gifts.
N.Y. factory index declines
At 4.19, the future employment index also fell to its lowest level since October 2001. February's order, shipment and employment index plunges sent New York's manufacturing sector back to where it stood near the end of the nation's last recession. The 2001 recession started in March and lasted eight months. Technically, a recession is when the gross domestic product exhibits two consecutive quarters of negative growth. The nation posted a 0.6 percent GDP increase for the fourth quarter of 2007. Global Insight, a Lexington, Mass. economic research firm, recently declared that the nation has entered into a recession. “The fact is New York does worse in a recession [than the nation], and this is an example of that," said David Shaffer, a spokesman for the Business Council of New York State, an Albany trade organization.
Entourage data disappearing bug squashed with Office update
Microsoft released a patch for Office 2004 for Mac users this week that fixed a vulnerability that could allow an attacker to overwrite memory with malicious code. The 12MB update is relatively unassuming (Apple's not the only one that has issues being specific sometimes), but Office users have grown used to patching security holes. After all, malicious code is never good. Thanks to some careful digging by our friends at TUAW, though, we have a lot more information about the other types of fixes this 11.4.0 update will provide. Once upon a time, there was a bug that would mysteriously delete the e-mail belonging to Exchange users, sometimes months' worth at a time. A reader detailed exactly what was going on in a blog posting, pointing out that some communications mishaps between Entourage and an Exchange server were to be blamed for the mass e-mail deletion.
Apple Time Capsule backup drive review
I had to restart the unit more times than I like, fix a few configuration errors in its 'automatic' configuration, and deal with a glitch in getting Time Machine to select the right drive. Perhaps most surprising about this combination of a Wi-Fi base station and internal network-attached storage (NAS) drive is that Time Capsule doesn't just allow you to back up to its internal drive: you can also perform Time Machine backups to drives attached to the Time Capsule via USB. This feature was promised before Leopard's release for the AirPort Extreme Base Station (2007 models), but later removed from Apple's list of Leopard features. In a quick test of a full backup, Leopard transferred the first gigabyte of data over 100 Mbps ethernet to the Time Capsule's internal drive at about 16 megabits per second (Mbps), and to an externally connected Iomega high-performance hard drive at about 16Mbps.
CBC apologizes for leaving francophone artists out of TV show
Popular Quebec singer Claude Dubois accused the CBC of "racism" after it chopped several Quebec artists from the televised version of Monday's Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame gala in Toronto. Dubois said the public broadcaster had insulted Quebecers. CBC executive vice-president Richard Stursberg sent a letter Friday to all artists whose performances were not included in the TV show. "It was our view that the broadcast, on CBC's English language network and directed at an anglophone audience, should focus on music and musicians most familiar to that audience," Stursberg wrote. "Upon reflection and based upon the negative reaction to the television broadcast, we acknowledge that we could have done a better job of reflecting the full diversity of the participants." In the letter, Stursberg says the CBC did not intend to offend "any particular artists by excluding them." The CBC said Thursday the French performances were among cuts needed to fit the three-hour gala into a 44-minute time slot.

Mansion 'mistake' piles the pressure on Barack Obama
He and his mother recieved death threats because Tavis Smiley criticized Obama for not coming to the event (unlike Sen. Clinton who was also invited). Death threats for an opinion !! It is a very frightening time in America and reminds me of the dangerous past leaders who whipped up hysterical masses and created chaos. .
