Therapeutic peat mud and highly mineralized water located deep underground are widely used in the region's health care services.

ECONOMY

Kaliningrad Region belongs to the group of regions with a low gross regional product (GRP). The region's geographic location and geopolitical situation, as well as its ice-free coastline and nearness to the Atlantic Ocean, have a strong influence on its economic development. On January 22, 1996, the President of the Russian Federation signed the Federal Law "On the Special Economic Zone in Kaliningrad Region," which grants special privileges to economic entities in the region. Hip-Hop Rumors: Lil' Wayne's Detox? C-Murder & The Game's Mom? Mariah ...

My homey Johnny told me that C-Murder has signed The Game's mother to a deal. She soon is telling her life story in the form a book…and maybe a CD as rapper. “Life's Not A Fair Game" is supposedly the name of the book. I'm sure you all know, but Game's mother is a well respected OG in the Compton hood – I heard.

Castro steps down as leader

I saw three consecutive stories on Fidel and Cuba on our left-leaning, biased mothercorp. Not one mentioned that Cuba is a one party dictatorship, that Castro was a dictator held in power by his brother's control of the army, that in the early days of the "revolution" they shot, imprisoned or exiled their opponents.

Now they only imprison them - including a 75 year old grandfather calling for democracy. Cuba today has as little political rights and freedoms as Battista's right wing Cuba did.

Fidel is no Robin Hood, they are wealthy kleptocrats with huge bank accounts in Spain and Switzerland. No one can dare criticize the Cuban state without fear of prison, loss of housing or ration cards.

Canadians who vacation there blithely, not realizing that their resort lines the pockets of and props up a dictatorial regime are complicit in the Cuban people being delayed freedom.

MyStore.com Announces It's 'Open' for Business and Challenges Others ...

LAS VEGAS, Nov. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- "There have been many announcements lately from companies claiming they have, or are, an "open" network. But try and use your applications or any third party widget or gadget on them.

The fact is, they are only open if you are willing to learn and invest in developing applications using their technology or if your widgets or gadgets meet their requirements," stated Todd Meagher CEO of yourStore, LLC and MyStore.com.

"The truth is most of these networks offer a restricted 'open' platform within their network. It's like saying everyone will be admitted free after paying at the gate. Or, every credit application will be accepted. Open should mean open." Today yourStore, LLC announced its MyStore.com social marketplace will accept applications, widgets and gadgets from just about anyone using just about any technology with minimal restrictions.

Menaker to host new online series

Daniel Menaker, a longtime Gotham lit figure who decamped from Random House as editor-in-chief last spring, is hosting a new online interview series.

Touted as a Web first, "Titlepage" will feature roundtable interviews with a group of writers, taking its inspiration from "The Charlie Rose Show," IFC's "Dinner for Five" and the French staple "Apostrophes."

The six-episode first season begins March 3 on www.titlepage.tv.

"Titlepage" is the "perfect way to share my enthusiasm for books and their authors -- in an instantly and permanently accessible format -- with as many readers as possible," said Menaker. "I've always sought out literary conversations, and I think we can make them surprising and entertaining for anyone who might want to stop by."

Though it will have the production values of a TV show, "Titlepage" will seek to exploit its Web trappings by offering forums for discussion and links to online booksellers.

Qantas, the Australian national airline, has endured two high-profile IT failures in recent years and a third major project appears to be at substantial risk. In many respects, the company offers a case study for examining how underlying management issues can cause multiple IT projects to go bad.

Project eQ. In late 1995, Qantas canceled its project eQ technology services contract with IBM, four years into a ten-year agreement. The overall program cost was $200 million. According to The Australian Financial Review (1/31/06):

The project is understood to have run into trouble early last year after the human resources element was completed.
