Fasthosts hack forces UK sites offline

A hacking attack on web host Fasthosts has forced the UK firm to shut down some of its customers' websites. Hackers targeted Fasthosts' database, which contains the financial details, email addresses and passwords of over a million businesses for which Fasthosts hosts websites. Whether or how the thieves have used the stolen data is not yet known.

IU sports chat with H-T's Doug Wilson & Chris Korman

First things first: do I have your permission to tell Doug his work as sports editor is "papapapathethic" next time I'm angry? Seems like a good word, one that could be delivered with force. Papapapathethic! I haven't yet watched the film of last night's game and don't know that I'll have time to give it a good review. But maybe during the Penn State game I'll do a true statistical analysis (and by that, I mean I'll try to keep track on a yellow legal pad) of how many times Gordon drives to the basket and loses the ball. And I'd bet your home in lovely Oregon that it's not anywhere near half the time. Or even 30 percent of the time. Still, I see I what you're saying. And all I can say is that great players -- and Gordon is one -- need the ball in their hands. Wayne Gretzky said you miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take.

MTB News & Racing Round-up

The Multivan Merida Biking Team is about to kick off its competitive season. The focus is clearly on Norway's Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå, who had to quit racing last year in June for health reasons. Having recovered, the seven-time World champion and Athen's Olympic gold medal winner is back and ready to compete with the world's elite for the first time in Brescia.

Dahle Flesjå will be in Brescia for the first race of Italy's cross country series. Despite her long absence, many experts consider her as the odds-on favourite. At the same race, Austria's Robert Gehbauer, Dahle Flesjå's team-mate and former Junior World Champion is also scheduled to line up. On the other hand, Germany's Moritz Milatz will stay in Cyprus with his national team preparing for the season to come.

Hearts fan chief urges caution over match boycott plans

I can understand people's frustrations because I feel the same way myself but I don't believe that boycotts are the way to go. Even at the height of the Save our Hearts campaign I didn't support them because I believe that all they serve to do is divide the fans."Despite Watson's reservations though, the plans have been getting backing from a number of fans on the website, with one poster suggesting: "We want a manager to be given 100 per cent control of footballing operations. We want a protest against this random team selection, substitutions and tactical nonsense that are self-destructing Hearts."If we were all to choose not to go to one match to show our disapproval with this method of madness, then why not the Gretna match on February 9?"If the attendance was so low it might just implant a seed of doubt into Vlad's mind that all is not well."Meanwhile as .

I live in a rural area and have a satalite dish as well as an antenna for local channels. (The dish is not used for local channels) When there is heavey cloud cover or heavey rain or snow the signal from the satalite is lost. I rely on my local stations for weather warnings, will the signal be lost with the new system when the weather gets bad?I actually don't know. You might want to drop Mikel Lauber a line about this. He's covered the issue extensively. His e-mail is mlauber@wsaw.com.JWith HDTV, what happens with are antennas???Again, a question for Mikel.JYour exclusive interview with Obama was a paid political ploy by the Obama campaign. His campaign pays for the satellite time, and its only just as a responsible journalist if you give "equal time" to both sides. I do not fault Mr. Lauber for doing the interview, but the station is misrepresenting just how "exclusive" it is.I'd agree with you if not for a couple of things.

Thank Newsnight it's Friday

AIDS activists are warning that an increasing number of simultaneous infections with HIV and tuberculosis has created a deadly co-epidemic that is spreading across sub-Saharan Africa. Researchers say half of all new TB cases are now infected with HIV, and health care systems in the region are struggling to cope. In the Western Cape, a child is a hundred times more likely to contract TB than in the developed world. A shocking new development.

It's worth watching the markets and the Mexican floods.

And are there any other stories you think we should be covering? A lighter story to add to the mix would be fun.

I'm hungry

Several nights each week I can be found working in my garage making nice boards into unusable scraps. Occasionally, with a lot of help from glue and nails something takes shape. Along the way I snort and eat copious amounts of saw dust and get many cuts and scrapes. This isn't the case with Marthaller, his stuff is great. He starts with something ugly - a wood burl. If I were cutting down a tree burl would be the first piece into the fire pit. His burls are exceptionally ugly. If you're reading Duey - you heard me - you have ugly burls. They are covered with moss and bark and overall look as though they could use a bath. After Marthaller hacks the 60-pound chunk of ugly down to a manageable size he chucks it into his 800-pound lathe and starts it slowly.

Britney checked out: Checked out of the hospital that is. The pop-star was released early from UCLA Medical Center's psych ward because a court representative found "no just cause" for the hold, a source tells 'People.' Both her doctor and her parents wanted her to stay the full two weeks, but the decision for Spears’ release was overridden by the court representative. For the people of L.A., watch out – Brit’s back on the roads.

Everybody freeze: This is one of the hottest videos on the Internet today, according to Technorati.com. Improv Everywhere, a New York City prankster group, recently asked about 200 people to freeze on cue in Grand Central Station. Check out how other people reacted:

Bioneers serving locally grown food to promote sustainability

When Kryssa Bowman agreed to cater this weekend's Northern Rockies Bioneers Conference, she had a lofty goal: Cook all the meals with ingredients grown or made within 100 miles of Bozeman.

“I love challenges, so I was like, 'Let's make it work, even if I have to do just salad and meat,'" said Bowman, owner of Thyme Savors, a personal chef service. “The local farmers and ranchers, they deserve to have our business."Other than the salt and pepper, she has managed to accomplish her goal, creating recipes for four different meals that will feed 325 people each. In addition to being home grown, all of the food will be pesticide free and organic.Accomplishing that feat wasn't easy. Bowman had to design the menus based on ingredients she knew she could find in the area. She picked plums and apples from local gardens and a neighbor's yard.

Just Plain Neighbors: 1912 employees' outing gets royal treatment

How would you like to join 599 marchers and go to Greenfield's Boston & Maine railroad station for a short trip to Brattleboro, Vt. and have a field day in Island Park in that town?

Richard Sautter of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, who has done extensive research on Greenfield when he is in town, sent me the entire program and news release for Saturday, August 3, 1912.

On that day, the FIRST annual field day for the employees of Wells Brothers Company and Wiley & Russell Mfg. Co. took place.

The official program, oh yes, there was an official program, says, under General Orders: ''Employees will be expected to punch clocks at factory at seven o'clock, where line of march will be formed for each company. Each foreman will be expected to line up his department at once.'' (They always worked on Saturday mornings, as well as five week days.) The news story says more than 600 employees were involved (no mention of spouses.) Wells was at the corner of North and Sanderson streets, Wiley & Russell on Deerfield Street.

Has reaction to the Archbishop's Sharia law comments been Islamophobic ...

Furthermore, would he expect Muslim countries to adopt our laws so that we, a minority of Christians feel more at home there? I think not.

This has nothing to do with Islamaphobia, it has to do with our ability to stand up for our own Western, Christian culture, ideals and law. If this is not good enough for our Muslim residents then they need to find somewhere else to live.

Britain for centuries has been seen as a country with one of the finest legal systems in the world - what exactly are we doing even thinking of compromising it?

I would suggest the Archbishop does a bit of research on the implications of Sharia law for women specifically in the areas of marriage and property, before he welcomes it so whole-heartedly.
