Football recruiting
I had the chance to watch Julio at the Under Armour All-American Game and he's pretty good, but after having seen them both play, A.J. is a better receiver," McKissick said. "I've been asked over the years, 'Who is the greatest football player you've ever had?' and I never answered because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. "While we've had several great ones, now I don't mind saying A.J. is the best all-around athlete we've ever had." Holes in the net make 'cloud computing' pie in the sky
Here's a phrase you will be hearing a lot in the next few years: 'cloud computing'. Its etymology is vague, but it probably dates from the moment when someone casually illustrated the global network beyond the individual PC by drawing a cloud and writing 'internet' on it. No matter. What cloud computing means is a scenario in which users obtain computing services not from the PCs on their desks, but from servers located elsewhere on the internet. Another way of expressing this is the mantra, first enunciated many years ago by Scott McNealy of Sun Microsystems, that 'the network is the computer'. This seemed a bit far-fetched at the time, because connections to the internet then were slow and often erratic. But with gigabit ethernet connections in local area networks, and increasingly fast broadband, network performance has improved to the point where cloud computing looks like a feasible proposition.

The number of Dinaledi schools was increased to 101 in 2007 as part of the emphasis on Maths, Science and Technology. The Thuthuka Project implemented in 100 schools continues to stimulate interest in these subjects. Learners from schools in the Thuthuka Project have received bursaries to pursue engineering and accounting careers at various South African universities. The 2007 matric results have shown that improvements do occur when under-performing schools receive support from government. Results in schools that were identified for hands-on support improved last year. This indicated the need to continue this support and further implement the resolutions from last year's provincial and regional education summits, with particular attention to the education of the African child.

Wal-mart's giving Southern Shopping Center businesses a reason to ...
If they're waiting for their computer to be fixed, they do some shopping, then come back," he said. Consumer Viola Needham has been drawn to Wal-Mart because it's less busy than the one close to her house on Military Highway, she said. Needham, who's retired, opened her plastic bag and pulled out two bras. She paid about $18 for both at Wal-Mart. They cost $20 at the nearby Kmart, she said. "It just gives you more shopping power," Needham said of the retailer's prices. Tristan Lucas, an Old Dominion University junior who once lived in Bentonville, unloaded her young daughter from her shopping cart, which ballooned over with groceries. "It's not my No. 1 choice of a store," she said, "but whenever you get everything in one place, it's convenient." Jennifer Jiggetts, (757) 446-2643, jennifer.jiggetts@pilotonline.com .
Bernanke Dismisses 'Stagflation'
The economy is not close to a 1970s-style mix of stagnant growth and high inflation, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke said yesterday, but he painted a generally dour outlook and cautioned that the downturn is likely to cause some small banks to go under. .
Software Mac OS X Hits Record Marketshare, Continues to Chip at ...
It still has many more years to go at this rate before ever evening the OS race, but this does not detract from the fact that it is making progress, largely at Microsoft's expense. According to Net Applications, a market research firm that profiles OS market share, between December and January OS X jumped from 7.31% market share, to a 7.57% market share, a large gain for one month. Windows fell from 91.79 to 91.46, down -0.36%. To put this in context if this pace was maintained, purely in terms of a numerical reduction or in terms of relative percent reduction the two OS's wouldn't break even until 2019. Still Microsoft has to be a bit concerned about how it is slowly bleeding market share to OS X. The total gain for OS X in 2007, according to the study was 21.7%. The makers of the study were impressed by Apple's gains, particularly during the holiday season, saying in the study, "Apple's market share gains in December for the Mac and iPhone are impressive; however, for the last days of December, the numbers are nothing short of spectacular." Linux also showed modest gains, up from 0.63% to 0.67% between December 2007 and January 2008. Part of this may be due to the popularity of cheap Linux driven PCs, such as the Eee PC and the Everex CloudBook which is available online from Wal-Mart (although Eee PC will soon be available with a stripped-down version of Windows XP).
