MaximumASP Development Team Highlighted in Microsoft's Heroes Happen ...

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - (Business Wire) MaximumASP, a Microsoft Gold Certified Provider of web hosting and managed IT services, is featured in the Microsoft Heroes Happen Here Portrait Book for their significant impact in bringing new technologies to market.

"MaximumASP's participation in the 2008 Global Launch Wave is another example of our tight knit relationship with Microsoft," said Chris Morrow, CIO at MaximumASP. "As with previous Microsoft web-related technologies, we will continue to be early adopters, whether that is testing and offering a new product like IIS 7 or SQL Server 2008 in its beta stage, or helping launch a new product to the public as we are now doing with Windows Server 2008."

MaximumASP has immediate availability of all four of the new Windows Server 2008 Editions as options in its dedicated server product line-up.

Job openings: Quarterback Andre Woodson figures to be a first-day pick in the NFL draft, and his departure creates the biggest hole for the back-to-back Music City Bowl champions. Top candidates for the starting QB job include speedster Curtis Pulley, who missed last season for academic reasons, and sophomore Mike Hartline, Woodson's backup last year. Also gone is running back Rafael Little, but the Wildcats have plenty of depth there, with Tony Dixon, Derrick Locke and Alfonso Smith all returning.

Bank vault data centre tests Server 2008

Banks may be closing branches to the disgust of many customers, but for one local IT services company, a disused bank vault became the ideal secure site for a new data centre to enter the hosting market.

Networking-Plus, based in Brisbane, moved into the building of an old Commonwealth Bank branch that had a large vault which was converted into a modern data centre with overhead cabling and fully-redundant air-conditioning.

Infrastructure manager Robert Warren told Computerworld the company has recently branched out into hosting when the new data centre went live in July last year.

"It's certainly secure as the door takes two people to move," Warren said, adding the power service is also top-notch as the building shares the same grid as an adjacent hospital.

The vault data centre houses about 35 servers, most running Windows Server 2003 and some running Red Hat Linux, with capacity for hundreds more.

Rare Helen Keller Photograph Discovered

Captured in 1888 on Cape Cod, the image shows an eight-year-old Helen sitting outside in a chair holding Sullivan's hand and a doll. Experts say it could be the earliest photo of the two together, and the only one showing the child with a doll. "Doll" is the first word Sullivan ever spelled for Keller.

The image was discovered in an album belonging to a man whose mother was a childhood friend of Helen Keller's on Cape Cod.

Clinton Wins Here But Power Revolt Splits New York

The congresswoman's mother and political adviser, Una Clarke, said, “I would just want to say to him, some of those who stayed on the plantation were much more loyal to the liberation of our people than those who came off and were confused. Some were dragged off the plantation, and when they got off, they didn't know what to do. Then you have those who stayed on the plantation and were more strategic in helping those who got off."

Helen Diane Foster, a councilwoman from the Bronx, predicted the Harlem establishment would suffer a reduction in clout in the event of a strong showing by Mr. Obama.

“Clearly, it can't carry that much weight when you have the three [Messrs. Rangel, Dinkins and Paterson] doing the endorsement, you have Calvin Butts doing the endorsement, and these are pillars in Harlem," she said.

Google takes a swipe at OOXML

Updated Google has slammed Microsoft's Office Open XML (OOXML) format as being "insufficient and unnecessary".

The internet giant's open source programs manager Zaheda Bhorat said yesterday on Google's official blog that Redmond's attempts to convince the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to adopt OOXML as the international format should be ignored.
